They are likely to swallow button batteries since they look like coins - making them a choking hazard. ![]() What Dangers Do Button Batteries Pose?īe careful with children. They exist in LR43, LR44, LR54, and 625A sizes, with a 5-year guarantee in storage. That said, it is easier to replace an LR44 with an SR44 than vice versa.ĭuracell Button alkaline batteries are the most common in the market. This is because LR44 batteries quickly drop below the 1.4V threshold, while the silver-oxide SR44 maintains at 1.55V virtually all the time. Conversely, SR44 batteries’ specialty is in marine functions in electronic devices. LR44 is the cheaper of the two and enjoys a specialty with toys and general use applications. IEC 60086-3 is an international standard that defines battery cells using an alphanumeric code format. They're termed "next-generation batteries," given their potential to hold more energy, their safety mechanisms, and potentially reduced cost per unit. In addition to the ingredients packed in the cell, these batteries use oxygen from the air as a depolarizer. Zinc-air batteries have the highest capacity compared to others. Incorrect disposal of the battery pollutes the environment.įor example, the United States, through its Mercury Act of 1996, prohibited the use of mercury in favour of mercury-free alkaline batteries. Mercury-oxide batteries have stable voltage but are no longer used because of their toxic nature. They’re often used in medical instruments and precision devices. Silver-oxide batteries are known for their stable discharge. However, they provide less stable voltage and less capacity than their lithium and silver oxide counterparts. There are four major categories into which cell batteries are grouped: Alkaline BatteriesĪlkaline batteries match other battery types in terms of size. ![]() Today, we'll explore button cell batteries, their composition, and the different types. They possess a low self-discharge, which allows them to keep their charge for a long time (especially in cases of inactivity).

The document has been in a private Swiss collection for nearly a century and is described by Christie’s as “the earliest obtainable edition of Columbus’s letter”, whose international publication triggered one of the first “media frenzies” for the printed word. “Like him or not, you can’t deny Columbus’s importance,” Fernández-Armesto says.Ī master of ‘self-promotion and propaganda’: Columbus depicted by the artist Emile Lassalle in 1839. It is now seen by historians as a piece of propaganda that heralds the start of the European colonisation of the New World.īy exploiting the resources of this apparently “new” hemisphere, European countries would finally start to catch up with China, Islamic nations and India in power and wealth – while also enslaving and exploiting people all over the globe. The letter praises the rich natural assets of the islands Columbus encountered, and he portrays the “extraordinarily timid” native people he met there as “so unsuspicious and so generous” they are “like fools”. ![]() But his voyage created, for the first time, “a viable, commercially exploitable route” across the Atlantic and opened up communications between long-sundered cultures on either side of the ocean, Fernández-Armesto says. Witness Donald Trump,” says Fernández-Armesto.Ĭolumbus had no idea that, at the time, he was the first European since the Vikings to encounter North America – he thought he had travelled to islands near Japan. “ Columbus has lost his former status as an honorary all-American hero and quasi-founding father, but notoriety rarely hurts one’s market value, especially in the US. Now a rare 1493 Latin translation of this letter, printed on an early printing press to swiftly convey news of Columbus’s “discoveries” to elite Europeans, is expected to fetch up to £1.2m ($1.5m) at a Christie’s auction this month. The narrator of the song is looking back on a particular summer he spent with a girl- “And I laugh everytime I start to think about us / We sent that summer out in style / And she’s gone but she let me with a smile / ‘Cause she was mine for a little while.” Perhaps the message of this song is that just because something only lasted a short while doesn’t mean you can’t look back on it fondly. Whether it's Miranda Lambert taking a tour of her old childhood home or Alana Springsteen coming to terms with her twenties, these country songs perfectly capture the rocky road to adulthood. ![]() The song is a plea for help and understanding from anyone who will listen. ![]() The song describes the tragic end of an intimate relationship, focusing on enjoying the moment rather than thinking of the sadness ahead. He is trying to move on but is haunted by memories of the girl he loved. Another one of the best songs about memories is Al Green’s For The Good Times, written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson in 1970. Remember that one summer fling you had back in the day? “For a Little While” by Tim McGraw is exactly that- a country song about memories of an ex-girlfriend. The song is about a young man who is struggling to cope with the trauma of a past relationship. Other times, country songs are about a memory of the good old days, like in Lady Antebellum’s “American Honey.”ĭo you have a favorite country song about the past that we didn’t include on our top ten list? Not that there can’t be happy country songs about memories, but usually the past that is being dredged up is surrounded by sadness. From Tim McGraw to Jason Isbell, the best country songs about memories are often a painful trip into the narrator’s past. Unlike AAS or Pianoteq, Arturia uses a mix of samples and circuit modeling for its electric piano emulations. The CP-70V is Arturia’s take on this iconic electric piano from the 70s. It is a new electric piano, more precisely, an emulation of the Yamaha CP-70 from 1976. The third newcomer is probably the plugin with which I can identify less. You can load several instances into your DAW, each with different settings and sounds. In addition to the price, the plugin has another advantage. The digital version is perfect for exploring the MiniFreak’s fascinating engine without going all-in with the hardware. My highlight here is the Super Unison FX, which makes the sounds wide and fat. ![]() All the details can be found in the dedicated article. With version 2.0, the MiniFreak V engine also got a boost with the new wavetable algorithm and super unison FX. It has the same features, including all macro oscillator algorithms, an Oberheim filter emulation, and more. It is the virtual version of the MicroFreak polyphonic hardware hybrid macro oscillator Synthesizer. I think I don’t need to say much about what the MiniFreak V is. The MiniFreak V is now a further step towards a hybrid bundle of vintage-inspired and modern instruments. With the Augmented Series, Arturia broke the vintage focus of the VC and added modern classical instruments for the first time. This would not have been the case 2-3 years ago. Once only available exclusively with the hardware, the MiniFreak V was released in January 2023 as a standalone plugin for everyone. It’s authentic enough for me and gives me 303 vibes. Simple because I don’t have an original device to draw any conclusion. I can’t say how close the ACID V comes to an original TB-303. Classic TB-303 sounds but also spaced-out, crazy soundscapes are possible. It’s a complete package that makes a lot of fun. This comes with a creative, modern sequencer, three flexible modulators, and a rich 4-slot multi-FX processor with 17 automatable effects. You can find a detailed overview of the ACID V plugin in the dedicated article.Ī highlight of the ACID V is the advanced engine part that allows you to take the TB-303 sound far beyond the original hardware. It’s a supercharged, still authentic emulation of the legendary Roland TB-303 with a multi-algorithm distortion, built-in modulation, and more. The first new addition is the Acid V, initially introduced in August 2023. ![]() Let’s take a closer look at the new instruments and changes. The others (MiniFreak, ACID V) have been on the market for a while, and the Augmented titles use the same instrument engine as the previous Augmented plugins, only embedded with other sound content. If you take it exactly, it is a single new plugin (CP-70 V). There are also new additions: six new plugins ( ACID V, MiniFreak V, CP-70V, three new Augmented titles ( Brass, Grand Piano, Woodwinds), two remakes ( Mini V, Wurli V), and three exclusive expansions with new sounds. In VCX, the bundle grew to 39 plugins, including all plugins known from the V Collection 9: Emulation II V, OB-Xa V, JUN-6 V, Buchla Easel V, Matrix-12 V, ARP2600 V, Modular V, Synthi V, CZ V, and many more. Like the last editions, number 10 features many new instruments, updates, and sounds. After the release of VC9 at Superbooth 22, version 10 is ready to conquer the DAWs worldwide.Īrturia continues its popular synthesizer and virtual instrument bundle with the V Collection X. The V Collection celebrates a round anniversary today with the new version X. In their V and FX Collections, the French developers bundle their plugins at an attractive price. This includes synthesizers, classic virtual instruments, effects, and mixing/mastering plugins. Arturia V Collection X bundles 39 synthesizers and virtual instrument plugins, including the new Acid V, MiniFreak V, CP-70 V, and more.Īrturia’s portfolio of plugins grows every year. ![]() The architectural design suite is powered with mechanical design and modification tools, enabling users to do everything from prototype with 3D printers to draft up furniture designs. ![]() Although I’m renowned for my magnetic attraction toward cowardly turtle builds, I mucked around with a few of the presets and can confirm that the same diverse builds you know and love are all possible to craft, and feel wildly different from one another. The closed network test gave access to a variety of predetermined builds featuring the usual suspects that blended mixtures of combat styles, including ranged, magical, melee-focused and the like. ![]() Anyone with even a passing familiarity with Dark Souls will instantly feel at home here, which is far from being a criticism as that series is beyond excellent, but if you were expecting a radical departure from the successful formula then you’re barking up the wrong Erdtree. There are certainly enough tweaks and new mechanics to set it apart as its own beast, but this is not a Sekiro moment. The same staples of that specific series are present in absolutely every fibre of Elden Ring’s DNA. Perhaps that might seem simplistic or obvious, but it as apt a description as one could conjure. Elden Ring is very much open-world Dark Souls. The good people at Bandai Namco gave me the opportunity to sink dozens of hours into the game during a closed network test, and although the veil of mystery has been partially lifted, it all points at a far deeper mystery that every part of me yearns to uncover. For this reason I appreciate the mysterious beast that is Elden Ring, a title which still has plenty of secrets up its sleeve. In the modern age of gaming news saturation, it’s quite easy to spoil an experience by knowing everything about it before it even hits the shelves, and that sense of mystery and discovery can be squandered if you already know every minor detail of its development. ![]() Since that announcement we’ve only really had a trickle of details filtering down, which is slowly ramping up as we get closer to the February 2022 release date. Martin was also cause to get tongues wagging. The fact that the title would feature a world and story crafted by the similarly hyper-talented George R.R. The announcement at E3 2019 of another hardcore hack and slash developed by the hyper-talented team at FromSoftware sent a thrill through the gaming community, despite the scarcity of hard details. I’ve really enjoyed Elden Ring’s marketing. |
